I also have a cleaning service, and my first experience with dog hair was when a client called me over the phone and requested service at her resident, By me being new to the business< I quoted her over the phone according to the square footage of the home, and how many bedrooms and baths she had, and need cleaned. Not going over to do a walk through, and being new to the business. I paid the price dearly, Her husband was a police officer, which he had two police German Shepard dogs that work with him at the police station, So I tell you these dogs lived in the house as total resident.
Now approaching this home I did not know how bad the condition was until I was schedule to clean the home, IT WAS DIRTY, and dog hair was every where, Now these dogs had their own beds, on the couch, in the kitchen, dog hair in the bathroom, on the counter top's, I mean this hair was everywhere, and of course I did not have the tools to tackle this kind of job. In the process of cleaning this home my vacuum cleaner broke, and believe me I did not do a good job with the tools I was using ,All that to say you must have the right tools to handle jobs to that affect.
My first suggestion ,is to invest in a dust mop, you can purchase this at any janitorial store, I recommend Hesco. they have all your janitorial needs, Never throw your broom away you need your broom, If any one recommend that you don't need one you may need to check their cleaning skills, a broom is a must, I don't care what type of business you are in.
Second, make sure you invest in a good vacuum cleaner , I have went through plenty of vacuum cleaners all brands and they all let me down, But I did find one that I am very much pleased with and it's called WIND TUNNEL 2 made by Hoover, this vacuum cleaner you will never have to change the belt it a life time belt, plus the hoses on the vacuum is very long for you to get in cracks, the hose don't get clod and the suction power is powerful for picking up any hair.
Then you need if you don't already have a commercial mop bucket and a commercial mop, which you should purchase at a janitorial store which I recommend the above on line store above, they are cheaper then your local supply company.
Once you have the above three major item, Dust mop, broom , dust pan, and mop and mop bucket.
what you will do first, is go over your floor with your dust mop, several times, this should be fast, and the hair will grip on to the dust mop. shake out the mop at a stopping point, and go back and repeat going over the floor again, once you have pile all the hair in one spot, you may then go over the floor with your vacuum hoses, or your vacuum cleaner, I do both to make sure I get all the hair, Once you do that you can either use your broom, or your vacuum cleaner hoses and vacuum cleaner to go over your floor to get in between cracks on the floor and in corners, plus make sure you clean all open window sills with a rag and not a duster, duster normally just place dust every where else. make sure you have checked your baseboards because they normally attracts dirt and hair, so make sure you do all this after, and the reason why I say after you have clean the floor, is because you will have a better view of your area. once you vacuum all the hair up, its time to mop, mop your floor and let it dry once you have let your floor dry go back over your floor with your dust mop to pick up any hair that retracked back on the floor.
Now if you have hair on the sofa and chair, there are several way's to do this, I'm just going to list the most effective way that works for me, may sound crazy but I take my broom and sweep the couch and chair sweeping the hair to one size, then I take my vacuum cleaner hoses and suck up the remaining hair, this is easy for me, some people use the pet roller, that's to much killing time for me, if your vacuum cleaner have a hoses on it with an attached step cleaner tool, then that will do the job. I hope that I put down some helpful information for you and good luck!
