Stains on the floor!!

Postby Mia on Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:38 am

Hi :) neat site btw!

I'm doing my move-out cleaning and there are yellow stains from the legs of a table! Ugh!!

It's kinda like rust (my initial thought) except on closer inspection it was/is yellow. (Like a crayon type yellow...)

I'm pretty sure the floors are vinyl??

So far I've tried various application methods and combinations of -
(and have gained some ground!)

Gumption
Domestos
Morning Fresh
Bio-zet
Toothpaste
Bi-Carb
/& Vinegar
Elbow Grease!!

I thought about nail polish remover but I wasn't sure...?

Any sugestions?? :)

Vinyl yellowing

Postby mrscleannw on Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:47 am

Hello Mia and welcome to Mrs. Clean's forum. I have some information for you that you may be relieved to read regarding linoleum floors:

Vinyl will naturally yellow if it is hidden from light (floors under appliances, bathmats etc. for example). The vinyl will come back to normal coloring with exposure of light. That's the good news, the bad news is...it will take time! You may read the full article at: http:/www.mrscleannw.com/tips/linoleum-floors.com This will give you proper cleaning and maintenance information.

Another thing to try would be hydrogen peroxide. You can pick this up at any store and it is an inexpensive fix. Using it may speed up the process and it does remove yellowing from almost everything! You'll need to moisten a rag with the solution and place it over the stain(s). Check the stain after 12 hours or so, and add more hydrogen peroxide if necessary. This will remove the stain if you can keep the solution moist and as dark as possible. I would not try anything abrasive or aggressive as it may damage the surface.

Let me know if you still have issues with the yellowing and I will give you further info.
