Cleaning Linoleum and Vinyl Floors No Wax Floors

Laminate floors and vinyl no wax floors are very easy to clean and to maintain, but they do require some attention to keep them looking clean and new.

Sweep the Floors

First of all, you must sweeping and vacuum regularly. Dirt and debris actually degrades the floor and makes small pits and scratches in the floor that will damage and destroy the shine. You should vacuum or sweep the floor at least once a week.

Use a floor mat to keep out the dirt and debris that is tracked in on your shoes.

Wipe Up Spills

Wipe any spilled dry matter or liquids up off the floor as soon as possible. Wipe it dry with a clean towel.

Stain Removal

If you have stains on your no wax floor, put a mild liquid bleach solution on a paper towel and cover the stain. (Use 1/2 capful of bleach to 1 cup of water.) Leave the towel on the stain for 15 minutes, rinse thoroughly with water and dry.

Oil Based Stains

If you have an oil based stain such as heel or scuff marks and uses either hair spray, rubbing alcohol, or Mr. Clean magic erasers to remove the stain. Rinse thoroughly with water and then wipe dry.

Paint or Nail Polish Removal

Nail polish or paint can be removed with acetone or alcohol. Rinse completely and then wipe it dry.

Mop The Floor

You can damp mop the floor with either a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water, or use a mild ammonia solution. (read the manufacturers instructions) but my brand of ammonia indicates about three capfuls of ammonia to each gallon of warm water. Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners to avoid scratching the surface of the floor and dulling the shine. Vinegar cleaning will leave no residue and keep floors looking great. Using detergents or stronger solutions of ammonia will leave a build up of cleaning product reside which will dull the shine and attract further dirt to the floor. If you don't use vinegar, you should always rinse the floor with clean water to remove any detergent residue and wipe it dry.

Remove Water Spots

Either dry the floor with a clean towel, or use a sh-mop terry towel to maintain the high shine. Drying the floors has an added bonus of picking up any remaining dirt the mopping mixed, and removes and water spots which will dull the finish.

Floor Finish For Shine

Approx. every year, finish the floors to maintain the shine. A floor finish usually requires two or three coats, make sure the floor is dried between each application..
