Tips on Cleaning Vinyl Floors
Care of Vinyl & Linoleum Flooring
Sweep your vinyl floors regularly to keep any abrasive soil or grit and grime off the surface. Adding floor mats both inside and outside your entrances will help prevent any dirt from being tracked inside. Proper care of your vinyl floor will prevent damage and extend its life and keep it looking great for years.
Vinyl Floor Cleaning
Any tracked in dirt and grime and soil is enemy #1.
Check out the bottom of your shoes and you will find small rocks, caked on dirt, and who knows what. Make it your new habit to sweeps or vacuum your vinyl floors before mopping, and your floors will reward you by look new for many years.
Cleaning Vinyl Floors
Vinyl floors generally only require warm water when cleaning. We don't use a detergent on vinyl floors because it always leaves a sticky residue and does not rinse clean. We use a 50/50 water and vinegar solution which is residue free and deodorizes at the same time.
If you find your vinyl floor requires a deeper cleaning, you can try using ivory dish liquid. This detergent rinses clean and leaves no sticky build up. It is inexpensive and works very well.
Damp mop your floors on a regular basis, using 1gallon of water and a mild pH neutral cleaner.
Wet the floors with your cleaning solution and wait a few minutes to allow the detergent to soften and loosed the grime, then wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.
If you work on harder and more stubborn girt or grime you can scrub your floor with the white nylon-backed sponge.
To mop your vinyl floors we use just warm water or water and vinegar at a 50/50 ratio. Do not allow water to sit for long periods at it may damage or loosen the glue around the edges.
Wax Stripping & Sealing Vinyl Floors
To reseal your vinyl floors, select your floor manufacturer's suggested sealant product. Or you may be able to select a water-based wax.
To remove the wax for the floor, use plain rubbing alcohol - isopropyl alcohol in water at a 1 part alcohol to a 3 parts water ratio to remove all the old wax. Scrub very well and rinse it clean. You should open the windows and the doors, because the alcohol does not smell very good so you will need to make sure the area is well ventilated. Also wear gloves to protect your skin and use something to protect your eyes.
